Quantum Oscillator in a Blackbody Radiation Field II. Direct Calculation of the Energy Using the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem

چکیده

An earlier exact result (Phys. Rev. Lerf. 55 (1985). 2273) for the free energy of an oscillatordipole interacting with the radiation field is obtained using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. A key feature of the earlier calculation, a remarkable formula for the free energy of the oscillator, is obtained in the form of a corresponding formula for the oscillator energy. This confirms, by a longer, more conventional proof, the earlier result. An advantage of this present method is that separate contributions to the energy can be isolated and discussed. Explicit, closed-form expressions are given and the high-temperature limit is discussed. .I-: 1988 Academic Press, Inc.

There is No Quantum Regression Theorem.

The Onsager regression hypothesis states that the regression of fluctuations is governed by macroscopic equations describing the approach to equilibrium. It is here asserted that this hypothesis fails in the quantum case. This is shown first by explicit calculation for the example of quantum Brownian motion of an oscillator and then in general from the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. It is ass...

It is assumed, in general, that the electromagnetic spectrum in the Primordial Universe was a blackbody spectrum in vacuum. We derive the electromagnetic spectrum, based on the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem that describes the electromagnetic fluctuations in a plasma. Our description includes thermal and collisional effects in a plasma. The electromagnetic spectrum obtained differs from the bl...

Fluctuation-dissipation theorem and quantum tunneling with dissipation at finite temperature

A reformulation of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem of Callen and Welton is presented in such a manner that the basic idea of Feynman-Vernon and Caldeira -Leggett of using an infinite number of oscillators to simulate the dissipative medium is realized manifestly without actually introducing oscillators. If one assumes the existence of a well defined dissipative coefficient R(ω) which little...

One-parameter Darboux transformations in Thermodynamics

The quantum oscillator thermodynamic actions are the conjugate intensive parameters for the frequency in any frequency changing process. These oscillator actions fulfill simple Riccati equations. Interesting Darboux transformations of the fundamental Planck and pure vacuum actions are discussed here in some detail. It is shown that the one-parameter “Darboux-Transformed-Thermodynamics” refers t...
